Sarah Bartlem Ceramics - @sarahbartlemceramics

Brought up in rural Cheshire, Sarah enrolled at Art School after sixth form to study Graphic Design. She spent the first years of her career in advertising agencies in Cheltenham, and later in the Manchester area. After meeting her partner Neil, they settled in a North Wales village with their son Harry. There they run a design and editorial business and have specialised in promoting this special part of the world for many years. That work makes her feel even more connected with North East Wales.

Sarah always had a great passion for ceramics, be it fine antique or modern studio pottery. Visiting the Potteries with her Mum from a very early age introduced her to the skills of the potter.

So when she got a chance to have a go herself, she grabbed it with both hands and instantly fell in love. It's a slow process but, in a world where everything is at the tap of a finger, the rewards in pottery are worth waiting for. When you open the kiln you never know exactly what you're going to find!

Sarah’s work is simple, practical and intended to be used every day. She throws vessels on the wheel and also by hand building – this is finished off with subtle glazing. She’s also designed a range of greetings cards featuring her pottery.

The real pleasure for Sarah is making something that can become part of someone’s home and everyday life.
