Pinchpots
COURSE DETAILS

Sarah Bartlem Ceramics will guide a small group through an afternoon exploring different techniques of working with clay. She will show you how you can make a set of pinch pots, how to make a candle holder by a slab technique and give you a chance to be guided on the potter’s wheel.

At the end of the day you can choose up to 3 finished pieces to be fired. When your work is ‘leather dry’, usually a couple of days later, Sarah will tidy them up around the base. When completely dry she will ‘biscuit fire’ them, glaze in white and then ‘glaze fire’ ready for you to collect – usually about four weeks later.

Alternatively they can be posted to you for an additional fee.

Sarah Bartlem
YOUR TUTOR

Sarah’s journey in pottery began around 2010, having worked solely as a graphic designer until then. Having always had a yearning to work with clay she found a potter to teach her the basics of throwing on the wheel.

After another year attending an evening class at a local university, she took the plunge and bought a wheel and kiln. She is continually learning, experimenting with form, texture and application of glaze, trying to move her wheel thrown and hand built work to its next level. “The idea that we can use beautiful, practical and handmade items in our everyday life is very important to me.”

Her work features in private collections and has featured in some of the leading galleries in the UK including Ruthin Craft Centre, The Royal Cambrian Academy of Art, Oriel Glasfryn, Y Capel Llangollen, Mostyn Gallery and Tregony Contemporary St Mawes.
