Sgraffito glass painting & mark making

Brian Duffy will introduce you to the technique of sgraffito glass painting and mark making on this one day course. You will begin the day by creating a design on paper, then matting three colourful pieces of glass with enamel to practice your sgraffito technique. These will be fired and leaded by Brian to form a colourful triptych.

Using the sail of a boat as your canvas, you will then continue to apply black enamel over coloured bullseye glass, then scratching out your design to reveal the colours below to create pattern and tone. Brian will also need to fire these, and then fit a cast jesomite base to complete your sailing boat.

After firing, your pieces will need to be collected or posted.

Brian Duffy began his journey with glass in an industrial setting after leaving school.  As his passion grew, he sought to develop his skills and consequently spent five years exploring the light-altering effects of glass at university studying Architectural Glass Design. He then continued onto a Masters in Contemporary Applied Arts.

Over 33 years of working with glass, he has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in a wide variety of techniques. He has shared this knowledge for the past 20 years teaching students at degree level.

Now working as a freelance glass artist, Brian enjoys offering others the chance to discover glass design in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
